DART - High Speed in the Parking Lot
Well, it seems that DART has decided that it's horribly understaffed officers need really expensive new Dodge Charger Police Interceptors to park up at the transit centers. I really don't understand why they need a $50,000 car in the first place. That figure is just the base price for the police model. That doesn't include any of the equipment like lights, radios, sirens, etc. to fit it out. That's approximately the same for any car, so we'll ignore those numbers. Police cars tend to take a beating, so it's logical that they need to be replaced periodically.
Surely the same Crown Victoria's that the DPD drives would be more than sufficient. I've never ever seen the DART police engaged in a high speed chase, and that's what the Charger is - a high speed chase vehicle. Why not save the money and hire more officers? You're only about 500 officers short of what you need to really do the job right.
