This RIF was planned

The very first speech given by Michael was ended with a powerpoint slide that read: Believe or Leave.

Michael went to great lenghths to put the African American leadership in its place...Creating new titles, learning communities, and positions. Wasteful

Michael traveled the Earth to hire the unqualified-the only criteria was to be bilingual.Waste! Have you ever tried to have a conversation with any of these individuals? or the individuals in the Department responsible for training them?

The program to make DISD the best urban school district in the United States, isn't adopted by school districts in Pennslyvania. This program is not responsible for the gains made. More Waste!

Michael & the board thought it was necessary to take on some of the official duties of TEA by creating The Office of Integrity & Responsibility...more waste

Michael curled up with the DMNews and the Board...playing proper politics. What school board would not release it's Superintendent after such a mess?

To save face the DMNews & the Board are searching for ways to smooth this over. For our sake they are pretending to be interested.

Here are the questions both parties refuse to ask:
1. When did Michael first hear of any deficit? How much was it then? 1 million? 100,000?

2. Where are the reports of the Board's response?

Reflection: If the Superintendent knew there was a deficit (months ago) and allowed the deficit to read EMERGENCY/ Crisis level what would he gain?

The opportunity to RIF those who were not curled up with his Believe of Leave threats or his out right boldness to hire incompetent friends or programs that were not needed.

Michael has a lot of nerve. Let's give him credit for that. We need the nerve to ask what about the other half of children in this district who need competent English speaking teachers?

To save Bilingual teachers from this mess is unfair and well planned.

Let's keep it real. Michael should be fired immediately! RIF should be applied to ANYONE without proper credentials or certification. Departments that are not necessary should be eliminated.

Hinojosa should be fired!

It is amazing to me that the people who are paying the price for his mistake are the ones making the least amount of money. It is also interesting to me that Hinojosa and the others making six figures have contracts while those of us who actually work with and for the students did not get a contract this year. So I agree, there has been a master plan all along.

Ever since Hinojosa arrived as superintendent there has been chaos and threats of "firing" people. It began with the P-Cards. I will admit that there was alot of misuse of those cards. I had one and followed the strict guidelines, kept all receipts, and used it only for classrooms and students. However, there are always a few who mess it up for everyone. Anyway, during all of that investigation, there were threats.

Then came the "delayering" last year. Again, we spend months with the ax over our heads and threats of losing jobs.

Now, this. The morale in this district is nothing but gloom and doom.

Hinojosa has done nothing for this district. Any progress that may be report is all smoke and mirrors.

A former employee of DISD who was overlooked for a variety of principalships came back to DISD with an ax to grind and an agenda!

Sue Dallas ISD and TEA

Does anyone have the name of a good lawyer to represent teachers? I believe that a class action law suit is due against Texas Education Agency. Dallas ISD is in a situation where educated citizens of the U.S.A. are about to lose jobs to citizens of a DIFFERENT COUNTRY to educate ILLEGAL ALIENS!! We, as taxpayers will have to figure out how to continue to pay our tax monies while jobless in order to fund the salary of NON-CITIZENS educating ILLEGAL ALIENS. What the ----!!! Furthermore, we have been ill prepared educationally because Spanish was and still is not a core subject in Texas schools. If it is required for me to speak the language to remain gainfully employed-Texas Education Agency should have known that this was coming and prepared us better. They are negligent and liable for not discovering our inadequacies and educating us fully. Just as they have the responsibility under Child Find to find students in the community in need of Special Education services, districts are required to provide us with an education that will prepare us to succeed. They have failed ALL students of Texas who are not bilingual!!! We need an attorney. Is anyone ready to take this to the Supreme Court? Let's get it started!!!

heck Yeah! Let's Sue!! Do not sign!!!

As I sat at DISD HD Dept, I was amazed at how many people felt that they were wrongfully laid off/ fired/ RIF'd but did not want to appeal the decision. Fear is what the district is putting into its employees.

Most people did not understand that as you appeal, you get paid usually 3 months. That is the law. DISD is not doing anyone a favor by paying them until January 16th. Matter of fact, you are doing them a favor by signing the resignation, that way they do not have to be tied up in court. As you can see, the deadline to resign has been extended from the 15th, to the 20th, and now to the 21st. They just need a few more to resign so they do not have to worry about more lawsuits.

DISD Personnel lie and tell everyone that if they do not sign the resignation, then they will not get another check or be able to go to the job fair. It was sickening to hear all the lies that people were being told as they spoke to the HD Reps.

There are lawyers already working on DISD. DISD is gonna start feelin it really soon.

Lawsuits

I don't know any lawyer who would take this on a contingent fee basis! Before you sue, you should do some research and find the statute(s) being violated.

The way I understand it, the schools must educate any student who shows up on the doorstep of the school--which is probably as it should be. Further, Federal Law prohibits the District from asking nationality.

So I think your attorney will probably tell you that, as unpalatable as it may seem to you, they're probably within the law on this one. To change the law would require an act of Congress and the State Legislature.

Lawsuits!!!!!!

I a sure there is a lawyer waiting to hear about how Bilingual Teachers have failing evaluations with 4 or 5 areas failing out of 10, and are not put on a growth plan or terminated (for them its ok). Regular teachers are fired for having one area below expectations.

Is that discrimination?????

I am quite convinced that there were many people singled out. There is no way all the veteran teachers in a building had the worst evaluations and were terminated. All the new teachers had good evaluations. It does happen sometimes but not for the whole building.

Come on, let's not be so gullible to believe anything that we are told! Especially, after 150 million has been supposedly miscalculated. Did you know that HInojosa pays living expenses for some of those teachers that he brings from the other countries for years!! Yes, Downtown lofts, yeah they living high on the hog off of our tax dollars!!!!! True!!!! I think that is where a lot of the money went.

A BIIIGGGG Class action lawsuit seems inevitable. If we can get 10 people together that are not scared of their own shadow!

lawsuit

The illegal student may not be a case, but the lay offs, unemployment benefits answer by Elrod, and Hinojosa's mismanagement and abuse surely are. I would recommend Bickel and Brewer. They have a storefront operation right down MLK from Fair Park. They are one of the few firms in town that regularly put the fear of God in DISD. I have been told that one of the Learning Community Leaders keeps them on retainer to ensure Hinojosa stays off her back.

Don't appreciate B&B

And don't we all appreciate B&B's work in keeping Ison-Newsome in power? Hasn't that helped the quality of life for all of us? First they were advocates for Mathew Harden, which is a whole story on financial mismanagement.

About B&B, Jackie

Jackie,
I am not a fan of keeping incompetence in power. What I am in favor of is getting people in touch with those for whom DISD has a healthy fear. Those firms are few and far between as DISD has hired most of the large firms to represent THEM. If you know of others with less offensive prior clients, please post their names to assist victims in seeking restitution for their wrongful termination. Thanks for your feedback!

Keep the teachers.

shar...
When I first heard of this inbelievable DISD blunder, my first thought was the students need the teachers. Teachers don't need a stupidintendent to do their jobs. Most of the people in DISD are getting paid for nothing. The only people who care about the students are the teachers. Most people who got out of the classroom didn't want to work with children. They couldn't handle the responsibility. So they got jobs telling teachers what to do. Very Strange Place, DISD. Anybody with sense, would look to see if the positions held had anything to do with teaching our children. If not, so long!
The "fool board' oops, I mean school board should feel real stupid. They created a monster. And why are we paying for his wife's wardrobe???? I hope Ron Price and the ones who voted for the RIF will resign. michael (no capital) should resign with them.

Where are the groups that care about the children? Why aren't they speaking out?

Micheal Hinojosa

BettyCulbreath

Dr. Hinojosa should step down or be fired. Jack Lowe should resign along with Price and some others. Carla Ranger is the only one I think should stay. Any job in America that the man in charge does not know how much money he is spending and has to lay off the very people that make the District work, Teachers should be fired and jailed.
You can not have a school without Teachers but you can have a school district with out a Superintendent.

Micheal Hinojosa

I could not have said it any better. Mike definitely needs to RESIGN and take his zoo with him--Jack Lowe and Ron Price. They are a disgrace to DISD. I just WISH I could get a special permit to vote in Dallas just for the school board election. Anybody who lives in their districts should get a petition to get those fools off the board. They are nothing but SELL OUTS. If they are "for" us, I hate to see who is the real persons for us....................

Who Is For Us?

I can't tell who is for us--the "yes massah" board, the AFT? Both of those have come up empty-handed. This is a bad time. People are stressed and really can't concentrate on their jobs. Teachers need to band together, but many are afraid. The very people who speak out get hammered--now we need those people. Did Ron Price even know what he was voting for when he voted for the RIF? There is a federal book program also called RIF. Did he think it was for that?

Union knew of RIF was coming during the summer

I am a former teacher of Dallas ISD and I now work in another school district as of August 2008.

I received an e-mail in June 2008 from the AFT- Union president (AB) telling me that the Dallas ISD is planning on during a RIF. The information the AFT- Union president gave me was giving to her by the head person in HR, K.O. She stated it in her e-mail. I still have that e-mail on my e-mail account if anyone want to see it. Base on that information shared with me by AFT- Union president (AB), I made a wise decision to accept a teaching job with another school district and not get caught-up in the RIF.

After reading the e-mail from June again, and seeing whats going on with Dallas ISD Teachers, I am convinced the both the AFT Union and upper management of the Dallas ISD knew of this RIF would occur. She stated it (RIF) in her e-mail it (RIF)would happen.

Who can we trust?

Alliance's knowledge of the RIF

Koldman,

Please forward your email to Mr. Gwinn. Also copy it to tdhobbs@dallasnews.com and kfischer@dallasnews.com. THIS is the information that we have all known should be publicly released. Once someone posts it, there will be some recourse. PLEASE email today!

Calculating and cold!!!!

YESSSSSS!!!!

It was planned. It was so planned! My principal began to round up people, late in the year, and started harassing them. She then changed their PDAS on the last day of school. All the people whose evaluations were changed at the last minute, were RIF'd.
Yes, it was planned. They knew. They figured that we would not fight just 1 below expectations with some exceeds expectations and an overall proficient PDAS Rating.
I hold Alliance responsible, and the district for not letting teachers know that that could be grounds for termination in a RIF. We were like sitting ducks, just waiting to be plucked OFF.
